The Sisterhood Book Club, formally known as the Ya Yas, meets on the second Thursday of every month at 7:30 at Temple Avodah. It is open to all Sisterhood members who wish to commit to coming to most of the meetings. New members to the book group are always welcome.
The Sisterhood book group will discussthe Febrary selection, The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende and the March selection The Ice Cream Queen Of Orchard Street by Susan Jane Gilman.The March book is a dark comedic novel about a Russian immigrant child raised by an Italian family who make and sell Italian ices and gelato. Told in the first person we trace the heroine's rise from the Lower East Side to media fame. Her accomplishments rise along side the history of the United States.
The February selection for the Sisterhood Book Group is The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. This beautifully written novel sweeps"through time and spans generations. The Japanese Lover explores questions of identity, abandonment, redemption, and the unknowable impact of fate on our lives. All Sisterhood members are welcome to join the discussion of this book.
