Holocaust Memorial and Remembrance Garden dedicated May 4, 2016

Remember-Reflect-Rebuild-Renew

A terrific evening of remembrance for new lives and lives lost ,Yom Hashoah, occurred May 4, 2016, at the Oceanside JCC.

The evening was dedicated to a new Holocaust Memorial and Remembrance Garden. Several Oceanside Rabbis spoke including Rabbi Goren from Temple Avodah.

Our congregant Ben Myerson, spoke from a younger person’s point of view of the March of the Living. Paul and Joshua Engel lit a candle for their father-in-law (grandfather) along with 6 other candles that were lit. The 7th was for the Righteous Gentiles who hid Jews or helped Jews escape during the Holocaust. The children’s choir which consisted of children from Young Israel, OJC, and Temple Avodah were outstanding.

The sculptor who designed the new memorial is Lea Weinberg. Her mom was a Holocaust survivor and she described in great length how she designed the memorial. The children’s (remembrance) garden is beautiful. Please stop by the JCC and have a look.

Sponsored by The Jewish Community Council of Oceanside (JECOCO)

To repeat their memories…
to tell their story…..
to all who will listen…
for you the promise of a new Spring

Community Events & General Information

The Basser Center for BRCA is dedicated to educating the Jewish community about the prevalence of BRCA1 and BRCA2.

A positive BRCA1 or BRCA2 result means that a person has an inherited mutation in either gene and is at increased risk for certain cancers.

In the United States, BRCA testing is usually covered by insurance if the patient meets certain criteria. Insurance coverage and criteria varies by insurance plan, and genetic counselors are excellent at determining whether insurance is likely to cover the testing.
